Sarkissian Family brings a little piece of the middle east
to Ithaca, NY.
"The Corners Deli"...The name doesn't do justice to
Samuel and Alice Sarkissian's eatery, giving no more than a
hint of what lies within the space at the Corners Community
Center. True, it contains deli cases with all the usual items
such as Roast Beef, Turkey, Salami, Ham, and a variety of cheese,
but there is more, much more. Like Falafel, Kibbie, Kafta, Chicken
Kebob and Lamahjun for main course, Baba Ganouj, Humus, Tabouli,
hand made Grape Leaves, Five kinds of Baklava, Kataifi, and
Namora for dessert. The list goes on. Do you begin to get the
picture? It has tables for people who want to eat in, and Picnic
tables for people outside during the summer. The Corner's Deli
is also a carry-out and catering business. The distinguished
character of the food is its international taste, but with a
special touch of middle eastern delights, and because it is
custom in the Middle East not to serve only one dish, but a
combination of dishes simultaneously, the corners deli carries
extensive selection of specialty salads. One of the best features
of the Corners Deli is the availability of authentic Middle
Eastern take-out, a good place to pick up dinner on your way
home. Sam Sarkissian was born in Lebanon, his wife Alice in
Syria. They met in New York city and were married in 1975. They
have 2 sons, George 24, and Samuel Jr. 20. Sam and Alice do
most of the work with occasional help from their sons particularly
during graduation weekend. Alice does all the cooking which
she learned overseas helping her mother prepare meals for a
large family, and she learned to love it. She also gives cooking
classes Saturday mornings.
